    Pep In My Step!

Here it comes!  My favorite time of year!!  I absolutely love the springtime, especially after the snow has thawed away and all the wildflowers start to bloom.  It’s refreshing to begin to warm up and shake off the nasty wintertime funk.  This is when I typically get everything polished and waxed, and if you’re anything like me, you feel a little pep in your step when the truck is clean and shiny, and the skies are blue.  This poem is about that feeling – the mood-boosting effect that the springtime bloom and warmth of the sun brings.  Ever notice how a polished wheel reflects a shimmering swirl on the pavement as you roll?  How about the synchronized swinging of some flashy mud flaps as a large ride eases on by?  These are pretty trivial things really, but I can get lost in the feeling of it all, so bring on the sunshine!  I’m so ready to shine again.  I hope you, too, can enjoy the impending spring thaw.

    THE SPRING THAW
    By Trevor Hardwick

It’s been snowing for so damn long,
It feels good now that winter is gone.
And it’s shining… it’s all starting to thaw.

The days are longer and the night is short,
I quit looking at the road report.
And I’m finding… I’m not feeling so blah.

A quick wash and some shine on the tires,
A wax job that the public admires.
It’s refreshing… the sun shines on my face.

The road sizzling in the blistering heat,
Reflections of my wheels on the street.
It’s a blessing… it helps pick up my pace.

The flap weights flash as they swing along,
The chrome stacks keep singin’ their song.
And I’m cruising… my seat flat on the floor.

My CB’s just swingin’ the mic,
I sing along with the music I like.
It’s amusing… but I’ll do it some more.

It’s warm days with the sun in the sky,
That make a man think his big rig will fly.
It’s enchanting… it just makes you want more.

The wildflowers and the trees are in bloom,
The left lane needs a little more room.
As I’m planting… my right foot on the floor.

It feels good just to break from a funk,
To polish up this old piece of junk.
And get with it… smash some bugs in the grill.

It’s high time we get out of the snow,
Shake it off and let’s giddy-up-go!
And stick with it… I most certainly will!
