\"MayPoemPic\"<\/a>Aren\u2019t we all just a little fickle? We want something, and then when we get it, we are drawn to something completely opposite. Growing up, those of us who were determined to hit the road, couldn\u2019t wait to get behind the wheel and chase down the horizon. But, even being out there \u201cliving the dream\u201d can get old from time to time. And when you have a growing family at home, the tug on your heart to head for the house can often overpower the call of the road. Nevertheless, when you finally get home, you spend some long overdue time with your loved ones \u2013 kiss the wife, pet the dog, mark the kids\u2019 heights against the wall, and then… you hear it… you feel it… you can\u2019t ignore it \u2013 the call of the road becomes so clear that even your family knows you are already gone, in your mind, and the fickle nature of your truckin\u2019 blood turns into a desire to get out and roll. It\u2019s been said that a trait of a great driver is to be forward thinking and looking far ahead, always anticipating the next move, far in advance. Our minds think in forward motion, noticeably and undeniably, miles away. Thanks to my friend Kim Grimm for the great picture!<\/p>\n

MILES AWAY<\/strong>

It\u2019s early in the morning,
\nThe sun is peaking through the blinds.
\nThe kids are slowly waking,
\nLeaving sleepy dreams behind.<\/p>\n

Cartoons on the television,
\nFrosted Flakes are strewn about.
\nFido scratching at the door,
\nSomeone better let him out.<\/p>\n

Mama throws the covers back,
\nAnd stumbles out to meet the day.
\nAnd here I am, the wheel in hand,
\nA couple thousand miles away.<\/p>\n

The pictures hanging in the hallway,
\nMatch the pictures on my dash.
\nAnd by the time that I get home,
\nI\u2019ll realize they\u2019ve grown so fast.<\/p>\n

Sister with her soccer ball,
\nBrother with his baseball bat.
\nI may not be there physically,
\nBut that is where my heart is at.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re loading up the station wagon,
\nHeaded into town to play.
\nAnd here I am, the wheel in hand,
\nA couple thousand miles away.<\/p>\n

I guess I\u2019m not complaining,
\nI chose the path that works for me.
\nAt times I do start contemplating,
\nIf this is where I want to be.<\/p>\n

My wife and kids are understanding,
\nThey\u2019re proud of me for what I do.
\nWe try to live a \u201cnormal\u201d life,
\nEvery other week or two.<\/p>\n

Ironically, when I get home,
\nThey know that I\u2019m not here to stay.
\nCause in my mind, I\u2019m chasin\u2019 lines,
