\"DecPoemPic1\"<\/a>When it rains, it pours \u2013 and when it pours, it usually snows. At least that\u2019s how my luck often goes. Recently, I\u2019ve been dealing with some minor (and not-so-minor) issues with my truck. It\u2019s something every truck owner deals with from time to time. It\u2019s very discouraging to be hit with such issues, and they always seem to pile up on top of each other. A faulty sensor is annoying, but it\u2019s not a huge deal, unless it coordinates its own demise at the same time as an air leak is born. And then a quick walk-around the truck reveals a seeping wheel seal\u2026 or a fault code on the reefer unit, etc. A cold snowy night bums me out, but not as bad as when it\u2019s followed by a truck that won\u2019t start in the morning. But as my dad used to say, \u201cThat\u2019s truck drivin\u201d \u2013 it just happens! I call this poem The Broke Down Blues. I wrote it for those of you who know that feeling of having one little issue after another, and feeling like the guys at the shop are far too familiar with you than they really should be.<\/p>\n

THE BROKE DOWN BLUES<\/strong>

\"DecPoemPic2\"<\/a>I stuck my head outside the bunk,
\nI tried to crank the motor on this piece of junk.
\nWhen I only heard a couple clicks,
\nIt reminded me of all the things I need to fix.<\/p>\n

So I grabbed a pair of dirty jeans,
\nAnd a shirt that I convinced myself was somewhat clean.
\nOnce I realized that I was in a pinch,
\nI got the clunker runnin\u2019 with a monkey wrench.<\/p>\n

So I warmed it up and headed out,
\nAnd I mumbled over what the fuss was all about.
\nThen I heard the inauspicious hiss,
\nOf an air leak that would punctuate a day like this.<\/p>\n

So I pulled it over to the side,
\nI tried to let \u2018er idle but she upped and died.
\nAs cuss words start to come to mind,
\nI couldn\u2019t help but think I\u2019m runnin\u2019 way behind.<\/p>\n

\"DecPoemPic3\"<\/a>So here I am a sittin\u2019 duck,
\nThe victim of a cost-efficient like-new truck.
\nThe warning lights upon the dash,
\nAre indicating issues and eatin\u2019 up my cash.<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s a good ol\u2019 boy to do,
\nWhen your hood is in the air and your rig won\u2019t move?
\nI strike and set a couple flares,
\nAnd then I meet a super-grouchy full-grown bear.<\/p>\n

He says I better move along,
\nI told him I would love to but there\u2019s something wrong.
\nMy Cat is being quite a dog,
\nThat\u2019s about the time he asked to see my log.<\/p>\n

Isn\u2019t that the way it goes,
\nAlways fixin\u2019 something when it rains or snows?
\nIssues never seem to stop,
\nSomethings always got me headed towards the shop.<\/p>\n

If it aint the mother-lovin\u2019 clutch,
\nIt\u2019s pesky little sensors, seeping seals and such.
\nAnd then they get me on the hook,
\nAnd pages start flyin\u2019 from the old checkbook.<\/p>\n

I try to turn the other cheek,
\nThe positive in everything, I try to seek.
\nNo sense in getting\u2019 in a funk,
\nMaybe I just should have stayed inside my bunk.<\/p>\n

But here I sit beside the road,
\nReefer unit faulted on a frozen load.
\nIt\u2019s not a game of win or lose,
