While it\u2019s true that you\u2019re reading this in the August issue of this, the \u201cking\u201d of trucking magazines, but I am actually writing this in early July. Getting ready for an exciting and very patriotic celebration of our great nation, I love seeing so many people out celebrating, barbecuing in their backyards, and participating or watching parades in the small towns across America. There are even boats out on the water and fireworks lighting up the sky! We are certainly blessed to be here!! Lately, however, there have been different kinds of gatherings in our streets. I don\u2019t really want to give too much oxygen to some of the things we\u2019ve all seen in the media recently, but there has been a certain movement causing a lot of chaos around the country, and it hasn\u2019t looked very inviting, celebratory or otherwise appealing to me. But, they have a slogan for their movement. They carry signs and wave flags adorned with their slogan. Heck, they\u2019ll even paint your car, home or business with their slogan, whether you ask them to or not! I confess here and now that I will never be found marching among the ranks of that incoherent mob, but I certainly don\u2019t mind modifying their slogan to something a bit more my style. If you haven\u2019t guessed already what movement or slogan I\u2019m referring to, just take a look at the title of this month\u2019s column (and poem).<\/p>

There was a man, some time ago\u2026
His fans called him the king.
They loved the way he shook his hips,
And how that man could sing.<\/p>

The king of what, I\u2019m glad you asked\u2026
The king of rock and roll!
Another king who\u2019s come and gone,
And on and on we go.<\/p>

Another King, from yesteryear\u2026
Was held in high esteem.
He led a massive movement,
When he told us of his dream.<\/p>

Now take a little look around\u2026
And kindly ask yourself.
Do you believe that dream of King\u2019s,
When you look at someone else?<\/p>

And there\u2019s a beer, from ol\u2019 St. Lou\u2026
The label\u2019s white and red.
It\u2019s called the king of beers,
But bud\u2026 wiser things I\u2019ve said.<\/p>

Their other version, known as light\u2026
That\u2019s the can in blue.
Maybe it\u2019s the queen of beers,
I\u2019ll leave that up to you!<\/p>

Some people come to know and like\u2026
King cigars and Road King bikes.
A Burger King to grab a bite,
On a Kingman, Arizona night.<\/p>

Some may like, and some may dread\u2026
Dry vans, tankers, old flatbeds.
Or Thermo King\u2019s placed up ahead,
Of stainless, 48-foot spreads.<\/p>

All these kings, I\u2019d like to know\u2026
Where on God\u2019s green Earth they go.
When Marmon Trucks rolled with the flow,
They were called kings of the road.<\/p>

But there IS a perfect living King\u2026
His words you\u2019ll find in red.
He gave His life for you and me,
With thorns upon His head.<\/p>

The King of kings, The Lord of lords\u2026
The One who truly cares.
His Holy Name is Jesus, Christ,
And not \u201cthe man upstairs\u201d.<\/p>

The King of Heaven, high above\u2026
Creator of all things.
The greatest King you\u2019d ever know,
If you ever did know Kings!<\/p>
