\"\"<\/a>Many of you know that my dad drove trucks for many years, nearly 40. But what you may not know is that lately his health has become a serious problem. Dad was admitted into the hospital nearly a month ago and they performed an operation on him that required them to shave the beard we have seen on him our entire lives. Throughout our childhood, my five siblings and I have rarely ever seen my dad clean-shaven, so to see him in the hospital like that was surreal. While visiting my dad, my sister Heather and I were talking about his beard, or the lack there of, and it reminded her of a poem she had written. She wrote this poem months prior to him going into the hospital, but I asked her if I could include it in this month\u2019s issue. I thought it may be fitting since this is the month we celebrate Father\u2019s Day. While my dad still has a long recovery ahead, we are hopeful of a full restoration of his health (and his beard). This poem, Dad\u2019s Whiskers, summarizes what something as simple as a beard on a dad can mean to a child.<\/p>\n

His \u201cSanta\u201d whiskers say,
\n\u201cI see you when you sleep.
\nI know if you\u2019ve been bad or good,
\nAnd I hear you when you weep.\u201d<\/p>\n

A familiar face to strangers,
\n\u201cCome talk with me, you\u2019ll see.
\nI\u2019m striking but I\u2019m gentle,
\nYou\u2019ll have a friend in me.\u201d<\/p>\n

When he shaves all \u201cfoo-man-choo,\u201d
\nIt says, \u201cHey, I\u2019m looking swank!
\nGive me a top hat, and a Harley,
\nAnd some gas to fill the tank.\u201d<\/p>\n

His whiskers smelled like whiskey,
\nAnd diesel fumes and such.
\nI know it might sound silly,
\nBut I miss that smell so much.<\/p>\n

All groomed, his whiskers say,
\n\u201cI\u2019m feeling good, and you will too.
\nI\u2019ll make you feel invincible,
\nBecause there\u2019s nothing I can\u2019t do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dad\u2019s whiskers give scratchy kisses,
\nThat tickle grandkids \u2018til they smile.
\nThey hide secrets, as well as wishes,
\nAnd great stories, if you\u2019ve got awhile.<\/p>\n

Daddy\u2019s whiskers kissed me \u201cWelcome,\u201d
\nWith my first breath of life.
\nHis whiskers kissed, \u201cYou\u2019ll be okay,\u201d
\nAs he gave me away to be a wife.<\/p>\n

My dad\u2019s whiskers kissed me \u201cSorry,\u201d
\nWhen my heart could no longer bear.
\nAnd now, I don\u2019t know what I\u2019ll do,
