{"id":12599,"date":"2016-12-01T20:03:46","date_gmt":"2016-12-02T01:03:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tenfourmagazine.com\/?p=12599"},"modified":"2016-12-01T21:32:00","modified_gmt":"2016-12-02T02:32:00","slug":"how-to-install-a-train-horn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tenfourmagazine.com\/content\/2016\/12\/do-it-yourself\/how-to-install-a-train-horn\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Install a Train Horn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>\u201cAny hard-workin\u2019 trucker who says he wouldn\u2019t enjoy a \u2018Loud and Proud\u2019 train horn on his rig, prolly ain\u2019t being 100% truthful!\u201d Bryan Martin\/Owner, 4 State Trucks<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 1:<\/strong> After tapping into your truck\u2019s air supply, you will need to run your supply air through your cab floor into your valve and then back down through the floor. &nbsp;The pedestal simply mounts to the floor with 4 bolts. &nbsp;The air line coming out of your valve will go directly to the train horn.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Regardless of whether you\u2019re running a 1-bell or 5-bell train horn, you will need to run a minimum of 1\/2\u201d air line to supply these horns.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\nngg_shortcode_0_placeholder\n<p><strong>STEP 2:<\/strong> To ensure you will not have any air leaks around the fittings, we recommend using pipe thread sealant to completely seal each fitting. &nbsp;Simply brush on the sealant to each fitting before securing.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Hook up your air lines and make sure they are tight because it\u2019s pretty hard to check for leaks when the horns are blaring!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 3:<\/strong> After you have everything hooked up in the cab, you can lower the fittings into the tube.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Notice that there are more threads showing on one side.&nbsp; This is because you will tighten the \u201cair in\u201d side first, then run the \u201cair out\u201d side in until it lines up with the tubes on your pedestal.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 4:<\/strong> Before running the 1\/2\u201d air line from the valve and air tank to where the train horn will be mounted, insert the air line into a split loom to protect the line under the frame of the truck.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 5:<\/strong> When it comes to mounting the horns, we usually build brackets to aid in mounting. &nbsp;This bracket was built in our FAB shop, however a couple pieces of angle iron, a drill, and possibly a little welding will accomplish the same thing. &nbsp;Tape off your bracket to measure for the holes that need to be drilled. &nbsp;Here, we measured 2\u201d center to center.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>The authentic red train horns we sell all have the same pad, so the holes are all drilled the same.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 6:<\/strong> Once your bracket has 4 holes drilled, it\u2019s time to get under the truck to finish up this job!&nbsp;
