Flying Home For The Holidays?

Are you planning on flying home for the holidays? Flying is no longer the fun and relaxed luxurious experience it once was. Today, it is just a function of getting from Point A to Point B as quickly as possible. Those who do not fly often or have not flown in a long time may wonder… How do I pack? What can I take? How long will the lines be? Will I be at the airport and still miss my plane? Okay, not to worry – there are websites that can help you with all of your questions, like the Transportation Security Administration (www.tsa.gov) and The Weather Channel (www.weather.com) – both have great holiday travel tips. Here are a few helpful hints to assist you in packing and planning for your trip: 1) Always keep copies of your travel reservations and medications on your person; 2) Be sure to put address tags on and inside your luggage, including your carry-ons; 3) Pack light – this can help you avoid airline fees, and it’s easier on your back; 4) If bringing gifts, do not wrap them (when possible, ship them ahead of time); 5) For ski equipment, call the airline and find out the requirements for packing; and 6) When packing a carry-on bag, be sure to follow the TSA’s 3-1-1 program (3 – liquids, aerosols and gels must be in containers three ounces or less, 1 – items must be put in a one quart clear plastic zip-top bag, and 1 – only one zip-top bag per passenger). Now, here are a few travel tips: 1) On the day of the flight, check with the airlines for any delays; 2) Do not drive to the airport – have a friend or neighbor take you (it is much easier for you to be dropped off and picked up); 3) Take advantage of the curbside baggage check – the usual tip is only $1.00 per bag; 4) The airport is crowded and noisy – do not join the fray – just relax and be nice to the airline agents.
