Time For A New Ride

Well, I may be in over my head, but there’s no turning back now! As I’m writing this, it’s the day after I just kissed my blue 2010 Peterbilt goodbye. I sold it to a really great couple from Iowa, where it will serve its new owners by hauling livestock. So, now I’m eagerly awaiting the birth of my next rig. With the expert help of my friend, Cory Henry, from Kenworth Northwest in Yakima, Washington, my wife and I have spec’d out a brand new W900L. It all began when I began to ponder the idea of getting a Kenworth with an early style “aero-1” aerodyne sleeper. I’ve always loved the look of those sleepers, but Kenworth doesn’t offer them anymore. So I called around and struck gold when my friend, Steven Gibson, said he had one buried in the bushes next to his barn (see pics). It was in my target price range (free!) so I didn’t hesitate to show up with my machete (literally!) to claim my new prize. Next, I met with Cory Henry and he helped me design the new K-Whopper around that bunk. I’ll save some of the details until it comes to life, but I will say that after it arrives, its gonna spend a few weeks in the expert hands of Kevin Pickett, at Pickett Repair, and then Casey DuBeau, at Casey’s Body Shop (both are located in Lake Stevens, WA). They have both done excellent work on some of my other trucks, so I’m an eager repeat customer. Plans include a unibilt sleeper opening, a bagged car-hauler steer axle, and a smooth deck plate, to cover the remainder of the 295-inch wheelbase. While I have seen other beautiful KW’s done this way, I’m super excited to create one from my own imagination, as well. I have included a pic of a drawing I’ve done to show what I have in mind for the end result. The colors will be light, medium and dark metallic greens, with a light metallic green frame (similar to my drawing, but my markers and colored pencils aren’t exact color matches to the real true colors). I look forward to cruising in the new ride, but I suppose a plain white rental truck will have to carry me through until then. Wish me luck!
