    Unbelievable!

AugPoemPic1How’s your summer going, folks? Had enough of this 2020 drama yet? Things have certainly been changing at a break-neck pace, but I truly hope your summer hasn’t been ruined by all the drama and turmoil we’re being fed on a daily basis. I remember when we used to look ahead to 2020 like it would be some space-aged world with flying cars and teleporting human beings. I suppose we have seen some attempts at self-driving vehicles, but I’m not exactly excited about that concept, since driving is how I make my living. I lost my dad back in 2012, and although that doesn’t seem like very long ago, I wonder what he might think of how much has changed since then. He never had an electronic logbook or a truck that required exhaust fluid, and he always felt the general public’s appreciation for truck drivers was a concept that died a long time ago. When I hit the highway to Heaven and I reunite with my old man, I hope I can tell him about all of the fantastic things that I experienced since he has been gone. If I had to use 2020 as an example, I’d just have to stare at my feet, twist a toe in the dirt, take a deep breath, and quote Cletus Snow… “Hos… you ain’t gonna believe this…”

    HEY DAD, WHAT’S NEW?
    By Trevor Hardwick

    AugPoemPic2Hey there, dad… it’s me again, I ain’t written in a while,
But I think about you often, and it always makes me smile.
You won’t believe how things have changed, since you went away,
It’s the summer of 2020 now, and getting stranger every day.

You couldn’t run to Cali, in that Shaker that you had,
They kicked the classic rigs right out, and said they smoke too bad.
That Thermo King you used to have, is past its pull date too,
It doesn’t even matter, if it’s running good as new.

Forget about those paper logs, this may come as a shock,
We’re on electric timers now, and racing against the clock.
Remember how you’d spec’ a truck, and get just what you’d want?
Well, now you’d get more options, from a fast food restaurant.

Speaking of the restaurants, they’ve gone and changed those too,
You rarely find a place to park, and it’s fast food, if you do.
We add fluid to our smoke pipes now, to cut down on the soot,
And a sensor, rather than a rod, is beneath my heavy foot.

They kneel for the Anthem now, and you’re vilified to ask,
We can’t be close together, and they make us wear a mask.
And here’s a thought that might just be, a head-scratcher to you,
The public’s thanking truckers, just for doing what we do!

A lot has changed at lightning speed, and this year’s been a pill,
And who knows when we’ll settle down, or IF we ever will?!
You used to ponder future times, and what they might be like,
All I know is 2020, can up and take a hike!

Alicia puts up with Trevor’s love affair with trucks and also shares his outspoken devotion to their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
