    Gimmie A Break!

FebPoemPicI must admit, this poem makes me laugh. It’s one of those double meaning kind of poems. If you read it one way, it sounds like it’s expressing a personal disdain for wintertime snowfall, which, I admit, I truly dislike. I am a much bigger fan of spring and summertime. But, if you read it under a different context, it will also reveal my personal disgust for the often cowardly and collectively disruptive social justice warriors (SJWs) that we see blocking streets, shouting obscenities and hiding their faces while they chant about whatever their agenda might be, often referred to as “snowflakes.” These mobs of hysterical political pawns appear to have no concept of individual thought or identity, they just regurgitate whatever the hot topic of the day happens to be. Without getting too far into the weeds, I just hope you find a little humor or entertainment value in either version of this poem – whatever context you choose to read it in. Springtime is just around the corner! If only that meant a break from all the snowflakes, as well!

    SNOWFLAKES
    By Trevor Hardwick

They’re everywhere, so frail and cold,
They tend to make me scoff.
They’re feckless when they’re all alone,
    And truly tick me off.

    Collectively they block the streets,
    Causing traffic jams and such.
If I’ve seen one, I’ve seen them all,
And one is still too much.

    Some folks think they’re harmless,
Or they like to watch them fall.
    I prefer to never see,
    Another one at all.

    Sometimes things are going well,
    The sun shines all around.
But then those ice-cold pesky flakes,
    Come drifting into town.

    They slow down productivity,
    At that, they’re pretty slick.
I just see them drifting ‘round,
    And making people sick.

    Those good-for-nothin, faceless flakes,
    I simply cannot stand.
And look how many it would take,
To stand there like a man.

    I can handle icy roads,
    And the challenge winter makes.
    But I have little tolerance,
    For those we call “snowflakes”!
