    You Never Know!

NovPoem1Welcome to November, everyone! It’s not exactly my favorite time of year, since it’s just the beginning of the nasty weather season in the Pacific Northwest, but I’m thankful that (so far) the autumn season has been pleasant around here. While I was cruising up I-5 in Northern California a few days ago, it was sunny and 80 degrees, and I was running high, wide and handsome, without a care in the world. Some days are just like that. Meanwhile, my uncle sent me a picture of the blowing snow he was having to deal with in Nebraska, with a text that read, “I quit – sick of the snow already! LOL!!” I suppose the fact is that there are also some days just like that, too. One day might be a stroll down easy street, and the next day is a bumpy dead-end. The best encouragement I can offer you is to keep in mind that the pendulum always swings the other way. So, when things are looking good, just be prepared for that to change. And, if there are days when nothing seems to go right, just know that better times are up ahead, as well. Luke 6:21 says, “Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.” In other words, your situation will certainly change in due time. Don’t just focus on your present situation but keep an eye on the longer term things. Some days everything will go your way, and some days… well… you just never know!

    SOME DAYS…
    By Trevor Hardwick

NovPoem2Some days, you roll along just fine,
Some days, you just can’t seem to roll.
One minute, sunshine is blasting in your face,
Next thing you know, it’s freezin’ rain and snow.

Some days, you just can’t seem to win,
Some days, you’re doing pretty well.
Why is there always such a thin line between,
The highway to heaven, or the highway to hell?

Some days, there’s money in the bank,
Some days, you just ain’t got a dime.
Why is it, some days, there’s more than you can take,
Next thing you know, you’ve got nothing but time?

Some days, you know what lies ahead,
Some days, you just can’t ever tell.
Why is there always such a thin line between,
The highway to heaven, or the highway to hell?

Some days, you’re on the beaten path,
Some days, the straight and narrow road.
One day, you’ll carry the world upon your back,
Next thing you know, you just can’t find a load.

Some day, you’ll finally shut ‘er down,
Some day, you’ll have a tale to tell.
So, which way did you spend your life, chasin’ lines,
On the highway to heaven, or the highway to hell?
