SAYING GOODBYE TO AL BEISEL

Alvin Eugene Beisel
1933 - 2003

Al Beisel, longtime distribution driver and friend of everyone at 10-4 Magazine, passed away on March 25, 2003. Al was born in Kansas in 1933 and then raised in Wisconsin. In 1952, Al met and married his wife Eileen in Spokane, Washington, while he was serving a four-year term in the United States Air Force. The couple moved to Southern California in 1954 and, shortly thereafter, Al went to work for the Southern California Gas Company. He spent 44 years at that job until his retirement. About eight years ago he answered an ad in 10-4 seeking delivery drivers. He serviced the San Gabriel Valley and parts of Orange County proudly until his death. Al thoroughly enjoyed his distribution run and loved to chat with truckers on his C.B. (his handle was “Houndog”) while out on the road. Al’s wife Eileen said that he would have loved to become a truck driver. Late in 2000, after her own retirement, Eileen joined Al on the route. At first, she was his secretary and co-pilot, but as Al’s health waned, she eventually took over the driving duties. Besides spending time with his seven grandchildren, Al’s favorite pastime since he retired was Senior League bowling - and from what we are told, Al was an excellent bowler! Al and his big, warm, loving smile will be missed, both by his biological family and his “other” family here at 10-4. Al was laid to rest on April 5, 2003 at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, CA. We’d like to offer our condolences to his entire family, especially his faithful wife Eileen.
