Stockton Show Report:
Working Trucks Unite

Nearly 100 of the sharpest working trucks rolled into Cherokee Truck Parts parking lot for the 2nd Annual Coolest Trucks Show in Stockton, California on May 3-4, 2002. With bright sunny skies and temperatures in the low 80’s, Saturday was a great day to get outside and see some of the finest rigs California has to offer.

Friday afternoon trucks began rolling in and setting up for the Saturday judging and the Friday night light show. Although a few trucks came from other states, most were from the “Golden State” of California. Several manufacturers set up small booths and tables to promote their products and offer their support to Bob and the show. Many of them also donated great prizes that were raffled off on Saturday.

One observer noted that he had never seen such a legitimate group of superior working trucks ever assembled - and he was a certified Peterbilt judge! There were a few “professional” show trucks at the event, but even these rigs work (just not as hard as most). James Cotta’s “Millennium Mack” took top honors in the professional show truck category and, as always, turned a lot of heads.

Several local fleets brought out their best - companies like Rivera Trucking and Paul E. Vaz Trucking just to mention a few. TMT Industries came up from southern California with a few of their finest, not to mention Sandvik Trucking of Escondido, California. Bill & Marie Sandvik stole the show (for the second year in a row) with their beautiful maroon Pete called “Delirious Dizire”. Having just won “Best of Show Combo” in Louisville, Kentucky a few weeks prior, it seems this truck is the one to beat right now.

Being held in the farming belt, this show had more hay trucks than you could shake a stick at. It’s one of the only shows where there is actually “competition” in the 3-Axle Cabover class. Guys like Nick Nimmo, Chris Vandermaarl, Joe Martin and Robert Rocha fought it out for the top spot.

Our congratulations go out to Bob Hitchcock, James Cotta and everyone else who helped make this event a success. Here is a list of this year’s winners:
