A couple of years ago, on Valentine’s Day, I sat down to write a love poem for my wife, Alicia, and give it to her as a gift.  I knew other people would probably read it too, so I tried to keep it non-specific so others could relate to it.  When I was finished, I read it over and over again to myself.  It sounded nice and sweet, but in my attempt to keep it non-specific it started to take a twist of its own.  So I gave it its last verse as an afterthought and have been repeatedly slugged in the shoulder for it ever since.

“EVERLASTING LOVE”
By Trevor Hardwick

I love her it’s true, and I think she loves me too.
And simply for her well being, there’s nothing I won’t do.

Her body is gorgeous – silky and smooth, she always smells so clean.
Her reliability is something else, and I see her in my dreams.

She’s beautiful and there’s no doubt, she’s classy and she’s sweet.
She turns the heads of everyone, she passes on the street.

She deserves the best and she’s got my heart, I think I treat her right.
You should hear the soothing rhythmic tune, she sings to me at night.

Believe it or not I love her a lot, I even love to hear her whine.
And when she gets right down to business, she’s always right on time.

I could stare at her with loving eyes, for hours upon end.
Sometimes I think when times are tough, that she’s my only friend.

Don’t get me wrong she wasn’t like this, when she and I first met.
But I saw a diamond in the rough, and I knew my mind was set.

I love her so and she loves me too, and I hope my wife don’t mind.
I’ll keep her ‘til the day I die, I love that truck of mine!
