A POEM ABOUT NOTHING

BY TRUCKER/POET/ARTIST TREVOR HARDWICK

This month it seemed like nothing was coming to me to write a poem about.  I got a few rough drafts going but nothing really shaped up to be a completed piece of poetic perfection.  I guess maybe some would call it writer’s block, but I just couldn’t finish up a well-rounded poem.  Funny, sad, serious or otherwise, I just had nothing!  Then it dawned on me - why not take a Seinfeld approach and write a poem about nothing.  Seinfeld was one of TV’s funniest shows ever and it was about nothing.  It’s ironic because the more I thought about having writer’s block, the easier these words fell on the page.  I hope it makes you laugh!  We added some silly, somewhat meaningless pictures to go along with it, too.

WRITER’S BLOCK
By Trevor Hardwick

I’m sorry but this month I think,
I’ve gotten writer’s block.
Which never seems to happen,
To Kim Grimm (pic 1) in Trucker Talk.

I just can’t think of anything,
To write about this time.
And it ain’t easy tryin’ to make,
A Seinfeld (pic 4) “nothing” topic rhyme.

I guess I could just write about,
The places that I’ve seen.
From ‘Frisco out to Charlotte,
And the mountains in-between. (pic 7)

Ken Skaggs (pic 8) can write good advice,
And never skip a beat.
Clint Moore can build a bad-ass rig, (pic 3)
That knocks you off your feet.

But nothing comes to mind,
So here I sit with pen and pad. (pic 5)
I could write-up something funny,
Or simple, sweet and sad.

I guess that I could write,
Another poem about our troops.
Or maybe ‘bout the time I flew,
Right past the chicken (pic 6) coop.

Family, friends and waitress grins,
Could make great poetry.
My hand tells me to write it down,
But my mind just disagrees.

At times I feel like writin’ about,
The things that I’ve done wrong.
Or the roads I chose that took me to,
Some place I don’t belong.

I just can’t stand this writer’s block,
I’ll let my readers down.
And then I couldn’t show my face,
Next time I went to town.

So if you picked this issue up,
And tried to find a poem.
About a lit-up chicken truck, (pic 2)
With fancy lights and chrome.

I’m sorry but I haven’t got,
One thing to write about.
But stay tuned for the next one,
And I’ll figure something out!
