CUSTOM BUILT FOR 95th ST.

THE LATEST PROJECT FROM CLINT MOORE

This month’s “creation” was built for Shane Stoner of Ephrata, PA.  At only 33 years old, this third generation trucker has already had a couple cool trucks and rolled many miles.  Following in the footsteps of his father, Ken Stoner and his grandfather, Lloyd Stoner, trucking is all that Shane has ever wanted to do.

Shane took his first long trip with his dad when he was in the fourth grade.  Back then, his dad drove an A-Model KW.  Over the years, his father hauled cattle and pulled reefers, while his grandfather hauled cattle and yanked tankers.  Once Shane got out of school, he went to work at a construction company that had a dump truck to cut his teeth on.  Shortly after that, he took a job at an outfit called Keen Services, moving empty trailers around in an A-Model Kenworth.  He did this for a year and then bought his first truck.

Unlike most new (and young) truckers, Shane did not start with a beat up cabover - he went straight to a largecar with a long hood.  Shane’s first truck was a 1989 Peterbilt 379 with an extended hood, a 425 Cat and a standup bunk.  Shane’s second truck was a 2001 Peterbilt 379 with an extended hood and a flat top sleeper.  Shane purchased this Galaxy Blue Metallic truck new and then ran it for seven years.  Shane pulls a stainless steel, spread axle Great Dane reefer with the rails painted to match, so when it was time to order a new truck, he already knew what color it was going to be (the same).

Clint ordered Shane’s new extended hood Pete 389 (pictured here) with a 63-inch flat top sleeper, an ISX 600 Cummins, a long 316-inch wheelbase, a car hauler front axle, an 18-speed transmission, 3:36 rears, 22.5 wheels, and, of course, Galaxy Blue paint on the frame and the exterior of the truck.  Shane wanted to order this truck from Clint and then have him do everything that he wanted right from the start.  That way, when it was finished, it was ready to go.  Once the truck came in, Clint and his crew went to work.

The first thing Clint did to Shane’s new truck was reskin the doors and then he painted the fuel tanks.  Then he installed five bullet lights on the roof of the cab, six loads lights on the back of the sleeper, double 359 round headlights on Double JJ brackets, a painted drop visor and a painted flush deck plate.  Clint and his crew then added five-inch body drop panels (painted to match), a rear light bar, many interior trim pieces, a custom three-spoke billet steering wheel, and a set of painted Fisher half fenders with hidden brackets.  Clint and his guys then painted the dash and door panels, the windshield trim and the door handle covers, and then added the final touch - the “Van Hulzen-style” exterior paint job.  Originally, the painted stripes were supposed to be Dark Blue with a Silver breaker line, but after Clint mocked it up in Photoshop on his computer, they decided to go with Silver Blue Pearl paint with a Pure White breaker - which really made the colors pop!

When Shane first started out on his own he hauled eggs to the Midwest.  In 2005 he switched over to “The Dock” (Stoltzfus Truck Brokerage Inc. in Honey Brook, PA) and started running LTL reefer freight to Florida every week on I-95 (which he calls 95th Street).  In fact, his factory dash plate says, “Custom Built for 95th Street.”

Shane and his wife Greta have been together for 14 years and married for the last eight.  The two have a 17-month old daughter named Avery who, if she is anything like the three generations before her, might someday soon be driving a truck down 95th Street, too.
